Beginner Camps are for students going into 5th - 8th grade.
Campers report Monday – Friday 9Am – 1:30PM and Saturday from 12 – 3PM the campers will get up close and personal with a real aircraft and will be treated to an airplane ride, and pot luck picnic with their families at Riverview Airport!! Click here for registration forms!
Advance camps are for those students that have participated in any of WMFA's weekend, after school or flight programs.
Students will receive instruction in:
Navigation a. Demonstrate proper use of landmarks to travel between points. b. Apply mathematics to solve navigation problems. c. Determine appropriate uses of pilotage and dead reckoning. d. Distinguish among the different instruments used in radio and advanced technologies.
Air Traffic Control System a. Identify the differences in the responsibilities and duties of Air Traffic Controllers and b. TRACONS (Terminal Radar Approach Control) and ARTCC (Air Route Traffic Control Centers). c. Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Air Traffic Controller: clearance delivery ground, and local. d. Exhibit competence in utilizing the International Phonetic Alphabet.
Rocket Assembly and Launching a. How rockets are constructed. b. How parts of a rocket function. c. How a rocket works.
Students will also discover the “Principals of Flight” using radio control and or rubber band airplanes.
